This jfirst Taylor was establishedJanuary 22, 1878, by eight families, mainly from Panguitchand Beaver, Utah. In the United Order they built a dininghall, a quarter-mile back from the river and organized as award, with John Kartchner at its head. But there was dis-couragement, not unnaturally, when the river dam wentout for the fifth time. Then, in July, 1878, members of the ^settlement departed, going to the present site of Snowflakeon Silver Creek. They included a number of Arkansasimmigrants. There had been little improvement outside ofthe stockade and dining hall, and for most of the time thepeople lived in their wagons. 148 5o 3 ^I ^ o pi o :^§ o is o.
