Trellis diagram comparing fish catches taken in the four study areas. A Black square represents a coefficient of community of 50 or more, a blank square one of less than 50. When areas 2 and 3 are compared, most of the coefficients are found to be greater than 50, and a mean coefficient of is obtained from this comparison. Thus, examination of the trellis diagram and the mean coefficients of community indicates that three distinctly different species assemblages are defined in the four study areas. These differences are undoubtedly caused primarily by differ- ences in the bathymetric ranges of the areas studied. Similar differences in fish populations with depth were described by Stephens, et al. (1973)..
