At Liverpool Street station all telegramsreceived or to be despatched are transmitted throughtubes, and the two telegraph-receiving offices on theplatforms on the east and west sides of the stationare also connected with the head office at HamiltonHouse by the same method. There are several milesof these tubes at Liverpool Street, constituting aminiature single-track railway system operated byair-power and worked by air-compressors situatedabout half a mile from the head office.
