When ready for the examination the room should be dark-ened. If sunlight be the iliuminant, it is best to have a smallhole in the shutter or blind, through which the pencil of raysmay pass; but a good examination may be made without dark-ening the room. Where direct artificial illumination is used, thelight is placed ten or twelve inches in front of the patients examiner either stands or seats himself
