Alexander Muirhead (26 May 1848 – 13 December 1920) lived in Church Road, Shortlands from 1893 to 1920. He was the founder of Muirhead and Company, leaders in the design and construction of telegraphic equipment. He was the first man to make a recording of a human heart beat. Blue plaques are erected to recognise those citizens who have contributed to the world around them
