The over grown ruin of Buchanan Castle near the village of Drymen Stirlingshire


The original Buchanan Castle burned down in 1850 and was replaced by the present building with gardens modelled by Capability Brown. In the 1950s the roof was removed to avoid paying local taxes and the building has deteriorated over the years to its current state of ruin. During the Second World War. Hitler's deputy, Rudolph Hess was treated here for injuries after crash landing near Eaglesham, in May 1941.
