Pottery kilns, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, 1945-1958. Artist: Eric de Maré

Pottery kilns, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, 1945-1958. Pottery manufacture has been a feature of the area for centuries, although it was only in the 18th century that it became a major commercial concern. Bottle kilns like these dominated the urban landscape of the Potteries until the late 20th century, though due to changes in the industry few now remain.
