CFSK Computers for Schools Kenya s aim is for every school child in Kenya to have access computers by 2010 GSM Association are installing a mobile data service so that the school can get a high speed GSM data connection Executive Director Tom Musili praised the scheme saying What you are doing is great The Minister for education has been here to show other people what we are doing They have even come out with a strategy which we agree with and we hope to help implement We have 100 computers in this school but with the whole project we have 7 000 Form 4 use computers for visual basic programming writing music games spreadsheets word documents projects and presentations Student Francis Njenja age 18 has been learning computers for 4 years after his grandmother enrolled him in the school following the death of his mother from pneumonia I am doing visual basic and sometimes I need to find information on certain functions Some codes are a bit advanced so I can download them from the internet He listed other merits of the internet as follows Reading books online instead of going to the library Learning about other countries Reading news Downloading graphics programmes Interacting with other people Downloading music and manuscripts Instead of waiting for the weekend and paying 1 schilling per minute at a 32kb download speed they would have access every day and for free Francis thinks the internet is a big source of knowledge Getting it here would really help It helps us to learn more and catch up with the western world
