BGC Voice + Electronic Brokerage company trading floor , where traders compete on prices, City of London, UK
BGC Partners, is a leading global intermediary to the wholesale financial markets, specializing in the brokering of a broad range of financial products including fixed income, rates, foreign exchange, equities, equity derivatives, credit derivatives, futures and structured product markets. BGC offers a full range of brokerage services including price discovery, trade execution, straight through processing and clearing, settlement and access to electronic trading services through its eSpeed, BGC Trader and BGC Pro brands. On April 1, 2008, BGC merged with eSpeed to form a world-class provider of voice and electronic brokerage services in the global marketplace. The combined company is BGC Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: BGCP). Since its separation from Cantor Fitzgerald in 2004, BGC has expanded to 24 offices worldwide with over 1700 brokers and approximately 2700 employees. In 2005, BGC merged with Maxcor Financial Group, integrating two leading brokerage firms. This was followed by the acquisitions of ETC Pollak and Aurel in Paris. BGC’s origins date back to 1945 when B. Gerald Cantor founded what became Cantor Fitzgerald. Cantor, a true pioneer, envisioned a new way of trading: a world-class brokerage service for inter-dealer fixed income markets. This service would be based on careful attention to customer service and innovation in business and technology, principles which are fundamental to BGC today.
