Princess Louise, ca 1865, by John Jabez Mayall

Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, (Louise Caroline Alberta; 18 March 1848 – 3 December 1939), was the sixth child and fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Born at Buckingham Palace in 1848, Louise was a lively, intelligent and talented child who grew into the loveliest of all Queen Victoria's daughters. Louise was also the most artistically talented of all her sisters. As well as being an able actress, pianist and dancer, she was a prolific artist and sculptor. In 1871, despite much initial opposition, she married a commoner, John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne, later Duke of Argyll.
