There is a movement on foot in the national capital to have the Society of American Florists pay tribute to those who lost their lives on the ill-fated Titanic. The plans are to have about 1,000 American Beauty roses cast on the waters, May 30, in the vicinity of where the accident occurred. To bring this about it will be necessary to ob- tain the cooperation of the officials of the White Star Line in order to have the flowers carried on the vessel which will be nearest that point on the day in question, and to have them strewn upon the waters by the officials and sail- ors of the boat. It is expected that the delegation to the London flower show will take passage on the '' flower boat'' and, if the plans go through, will be there to witness this ceremony. A better tribute could not be paid these unfortunates, flower lovers all, and the deed will be one that the so- ciety always can look back upon with pride. The fact that the ceremony is to take place on Memorial day and that florists will be at hand to witness it, seems most fitting to the occasion. William F. Gude, the local represent- ative of the Society of American Flo- rists, is working hard to bring these plans, which are yet in embryo, to a culmination and in his efforts he is receiving the active cooperation of a score of enthusiastic members of the Washington Florists' Club. C. L. L. Thompsonville, Conn. — D. William Brainard and Chester F. Brainard, pro- prietors of the Brainard Floral & Nurs- ery Co., have purchased an adjoining piece of property known as the Beck- with Allen homestead. The purchase includes a residence, with some farm buildings in the rear. The residence will undergo extensive repairs and will be occupied about September 1 by D.
