Dogon boys on the Bandiagara Escarpment near Sanga in Mali The Dogon people live on and aroung the huge Bandiagara Escarpment falaise that extends some 135 km from Douentza in the North to near Bankas in the south in the area east of Mopti The Dogons migrated to the Bandiagara Escarpment from the surrounding plains in around 1300 to take refuge from the more bellicose Muslims They are mostly animist
