Worker members of the Retail Action Project present Retailing 14th Street in Union Square park New York

Worker members of the Retail Action Project present Retailing 14th Street PB&J for a Retail Economy in Union Square Park in New York on Thursday, October 1, 2009. The interactive performance revisits the breadlines of the Great Depression to highlight the low wages received by retail workers by "hiring" a passerby for a "retail job" and giving them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The piece is a collaboration between the Common threads Art Collective and the artist Stephanie Rothenberg. (© Frances M. Roberts)
