In 1392 the castle of Wijchen is mentioned for the first time and in its current form the castle dates from the period 1609-1623 when the castle was inhabited by Emanuel van Portugal and Emilia van Nassau. Successively in the hands of the families of Oostrum, the Perceval, Van Swansbel and Osý. In 1906 the castle burned down and the then owner, Jonkvrouwe of Andringa de Kempenaer, left it under the leadership of the Nijmegen architect Ludewig rebuilding in the original state
