Europe. Coloured Meteosat satellite image of the northern hemisphere, showing the continent of Europe and part of North Africa. At lower centre is the yellow expanse of the Sahara Desert in Africa. Above it is a cloud-covered Europe with the United Kingdom clear of cloud. A swirling frontal weather system is seen at left of centre; dense clouds are shown as white, thinner cloud cover shown as pink. Dense forest vegetation is coloured green. The data for this image were gathered by the Meteosat 4 weather satellite in geostationary orbit in early 1990.
