Gen. Jackson gave all his influence toprevent Harrisons election, but his triumph wassignal. The cabinet which he formed, with Daniel Web-ster at its head as Secretary of State, was one ofthe most brilliant with which any President hadever been surrounded. Never were the prospectsof an administration more flattering, or the hopesof the country more sanguine. In the midst ofthese bright and joyous prospects, Gen. Harrisonwas seized by a pleurisy-fever, and after a fewdays of violent sickness died, on the 4th of April,just one month after his inauguration as Presidentof the United
