Itmight indicate that the waters of this regionwere considerably warmer in August, 1896, than in June,1899, Dut colder than in June, 1910, and also somewhatcolder than in September, 1898. These are, however, very doubtful conclusions as the observations are far toofew, and the conditions change very rapidly in this shallowsea, on the boundary between the Atlantic and the arcticcurrent. At Hambergs Stat. P, of August 1st, 1898, no observ-ations were taken in the layers between 100 and 500metres. The mean temperature of 100 to 400 metres, has therefore to betaken from the vertical temperature-curve (see Fig. 28) which cannot be veryaccurate. According to this, the mean temperature should be about ° WOO 1100 36 111 I I VND-HANSEN AND FRIDTJOl HANSEN. Kl The mean temperature of Isachsens Stats, io, n and 12, of June27th—28th, 1910, is C. Owing to the earlier season, this shouldbe raised to ° C. in order to be comparable with that of Hambergsstation. The current should accordingly have been about °C. warmer in1910 than in 1898. The mean temperature of Stat. 1 (Fig. 21, G 1) of the De Geer Expe-dition, on September 2nd, 1908, was ° C. (see the following Table). Gi 29 28 & 20 M 353- 354, 355 26, 27, 28, 29 L 2. IX. 08 6.
