Universal blood type manufacturing. Researcher working on a technique that uses specialised enzymes to strip the surface of human red blood cells, removing the receptors responsible for creating the AB blood type. These enzymes have been isolated from bacteria and will be used to produce red blood cells that will be accepted by anyone, regardless of their blood type. Here X-ray crystallography is being used to determine the exact structure of the enzyme. Photographed at the Aix-Marseille University, France.
