Raspberry Pi computer. This is a very low-cost, single-board design roughly the size of a credit card (86 x 54mm). This Model B version runs with a 700MHz ARM chip, has 256MB of built-in RAM memory and has a memory slot that takes SD cards of the kind used in many digital cameras. This holds the operating system (a version of the Linux free-source software) and acts as an expanded memory. The Pi features two USB inputs for peripherals such as a keyboard or mouse, an HDMI high-definition video output for a television or monitor and an Ethernet terminal for connection to a network or the Internet. The Pi was first offered for sale in February 2012, within seven months sales had exceeded half a million units selling at 35 USD or 25 GBP. Because of its use of free-source software there is an extensive community of software developers sharing an eclectic range of programs to users for free.
