The crown is darkest on the sides, and pale grey in themiddle ; all the under parts, to the vent, pure white, tingedwith grey on the sides of the neck and breast. 47. Trighas brachickictylus. Above, olive green; beneath, yellow : a black filletenveloping the front, eyes, and ears, bordered above bycinereous white. Lateral toes nearly equal, and shorterthan the hinder one. Inhabits, plentifully, the northern provinces of theUnited States. u 4. 296 TWO CENTENARIES AND A QUARTER In general size and colour it is perfectly similar to Trichaspersoimtus, although the wings and tail are rather shorter: itis, however, at once distinguished by the structure of its feet:the two lateral toes are all but equal, and they are shorter thanthe hind toe ; whereas in personatus the inner toe is consider-ably the shortest, and the outer toe is as long as the hind characters have been drawn from many specimens, bothold and young. 48.
