The Czech Orthodox church of St Cyril and St Methodius in the city of prague in the Czech Republic. It was the site of a great atrocity
It was here in 1942 that partizans took shelter after assassinating Nazi Chief Reinhard Heydrich. They were betrayed and they hid in the crypt and the Nazis could not get to them with guns and tear gas so they flooded the crypt and gained entry eventually by finally using explosives. The partisans killed themselves rather than be Towns of Lidice and Lezaki were also obliterated and an estimated 5000 people were killed in reprisal for Heydrich’s death. On the wall of the crypt near a window, where you can still see the holes from the bullets, is the memorial plaque with the names and portraits of the heroes. The crypt serves now as National Memorial to the victims of the Heydrich Terror
