To meet these demands, the student should be well grounded in allthe branches underlying his profession. This course is therefore made strong inmathematical and physical sciences. A well equipped electrical engineer shouldalso be a mechanical engineer, and must have some training in the principles ofsteam and hydraulic engineering as well as heat, plumbing, etc. Drawing, ma-chine design, and mechanics of machinery, together with shop practice, occupya considerable portion of the time of the student. Some general-culture studiesare offered in history and economics, public speaking, and English. It is be-lieved that this course will give a broad general training, with sufficient tech-nical knowledge to meet the needs of a practical engineer. For the first twoyears this course is identical with the mechanical engineering ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY. FORTY-SECOND ANNUAL CATALOGUE. 41 Electrical Engineering Course.
