The sizeis larger than Spanish, fatted specimens oftenreaching 11 lbs., and usual weights being 8 cocks and 6 lbs. for hens when shown bird has little apparent Polish characterabout it, being high on leg, with rather longback and flowing tail. The head is smooth-faced and rather long, the comb consisting oftwo rather small horns of the V character, butstanding nearly upright, behind which is often avery small crest of a lew short feathers slantingbackward ; but specimens are preferred withoutany, and much crest is penalised. The wattlesare long and pendulous, the ear-lobes round, of. ORIGIN OF FAVEROLLES. 467 medium size, smooth and pure white. Theback should slope somewhat towards the tail,and the keel be long and straight. The plumageis close, of a glossy green-black, the legs darkslate to almost black. In breeding, the combs,absence or almost absence of crest, and goodear-lobes chiefly need attention, the plumageand general shape being usually very fowl lays large white eggs, which areproduced pretty freely and tolerably earlyunder favourable circumstances. On dry, suit-able soils La Fleche chickens fledge rapidly,and, with good and nourishing food and free-dom from damp, are quite hardy.
