He wasa public-spirited citizen, and patriot to the very core. TownClerk thirteen years, and Selectman thirty-two years. Hewas Major, Lieutenant-Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier and Major-General of Militia, before and after the Revolution. Presidentof the Massachusetts Medical Society, President of Board ofTrustees, Groton Academy, and a fellow of the American So-ciety of Arts and Sciences.
