Warning left by members of The Cacophany Project that predator trapping is taking place in a protected area of New Zealand. The group is attempting to remove introduced predators, rats, stoats, possums etc. and allow native species of birds to thrive. The group uses technology,IT and AI to assist in this and works closely with DOC and other conservation groups. This particulat part of the project , in the MokmokoDryland Sanctuary also protects two species of native takes its name from words attributed to Captain James Cook who, on arriving in New Zealand, referred to "the sweetest cacophony of bird song." The arrival of ships such as his also meant the arrival of predators which would drastically reduce the numbers of native species.
