These are the unattended barracks that are set for tearing down in the spring. For years a plan went back and forth on what to do but ultimately the priority over the last ten years has been training troops for war. Now a plan has been approved and funding set aside to remove this eye sore and dump it into a new landfill. Not sure if that includes the chapel but another church is available so it might go too. These are shots of a few of the transient barracks dining halls that units with organic cooks can operate. The plus to these are they are located right next to where troops are staying and larger units can feed their own. These help when Camp Roberts has thousands of Soldiers training at the same time. Usual operating time for these are around two weeks and then they shutdown. A much anticipated dining facility is under construction very near the transient barracks, which makes it more convenient for troops to get to. The current one is located at the top of a hill, which requires a long walk or transport to. Refer to the story on the SMA visit for more details.
