Teletskoye Lake or Altyn-Kyol (Golden Lake) is the largest lake in the Russian Altai. It is km long and has a maximum width of km. The Teletskoye is the deepest lake in Altai and the fourth deepest lake in Russia. Its mean depth is 174 m, while maximum depth is 325 m. The lake is situated at an altitude of 434 m. It is of mixed glacial and tectonic origins. More than 70 rivers flow into Teletskoye Lake. The largest of them is the Chulyshman. The Biya River is the only one that flows out. Teletskoye Lake is a unique nature monument. In 1998 it was entered into the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The Altai State Nature Reserve was established on the right bank of the lake in 1932.
