Yellow pohutukawa tree on Petone Esplanade, Wellington, flowering at Christmas

Yellow pohutukawa are much less common than the red pohutukawa in New Zealand, but they are not rare. This mid sized tree is in full flower in December, at the same time as the red trees, with pale yellow sprays. The red pohutukawa are known as NZ's Christmas trees because of their summer flowering time.
