Madam C. J. Walker (1867-1919), US businesswoman, driving a car. Walker was one of the first African-American millionairesses. Born Sarah Breedlove, she rose from cotton-picking to working in a laundrette, to founding a hair and cosmetics company. She traded using the name of her third husband. Her interest in hair tonics had started when she suffered a hair condition that left her temporarily bald. By 1917, the business was the largest in the USA owned by an African-American.
