When about eighteen years of age he left home andcame to Boston, and became connected with X. Boyn-ton & Co., the well-known cotton-duck house. Thiswas in January, 1867. To the experience he receivedwhile in the em]jloyment of this house he owes much ofhis future success. He remained with N. lioynton &Co. four years, and then engaged as salesman for thefirm of Bennett, Rand & Co., produce commissionmerchants. This situation he held for eleven vears,. CHARLES G. ROBERTS being very highly esteemed by his employers and by allhis business associates. In 1882 he severed his connec-tion with Bennett, Rand & Co., and formed a partner-ship with Mr. Patch, under the firm name of Patch &Roberts, which relation still continues. The firm hasestablished and maintains a high reputation among themerchants of Boston. They are heavy receivers ofbutter, eggs, and poultry from the West, as well as beingthe largest receivers in New England of pineapples direct from thegrower. The firmsname is known allthrough the Southas solid and safeconsignees of fruitand produce. is a promi-nent member of theBoston Chamber ofCommerce, and isone of the chartermembers of the Bos-ton Fruit and Pro-duce Exchange, inwhich he has alwaysbeen a faithfulworker, and of whichhe was elected pres-ident in January,1892.
