Black Grouse gather at traditional lekking grounds each spring. Males come together to display and establish small territories within the lek on which they display. Inevitably fights break out between rival males but there is also much posturing and bluff. Females visit the lek and choose the males of their choice, normally the most dominant with which to mate.
