Etienne-Jules Marey, French physiologist and pioneer of cinematography, 1901. Marey (1830-1904) was a French physiologist who pioneered the use of photography to record and analyse movement, which led to the invention of cinematography. In 1881, he invented the photographic gun and later he devised the first chronophotograph camera.
