Maj. Chad Ford, the squadron executive officer for the 2nd Squadron, 108th Cavalry Regiment, 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Louisiana National Guard, addresses the five Soldiers who completed the spur ride at Al Asad Air Base in western Iraq on August 1, 2021. Each of the five Soldiers received their silver spurs during the spur ceremony, which marked the end of a two-day event in which they were tested on Army skills, specific job tasks, and physical and mental toughness. The spur ride is an age-old cavalry tradition meant to recognize the growth and accomplishment of young Troopers.
