This pier was constructed on the site of old Pier 3 and wasdesigned for the use of river boats plying between San Francisco andpoints on the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers. It Ls 138 feet inwidth and 706 feet in length and is constructed of reinforced concretethroughout. The supports are reinforced concrete piles which averagefrom 90 to 100 feet in length. There is a depressed track on the northside and seven adjustable cargo aprons are provided to facilitatetrucking between the boats and the pier. On these aprons the trans-portation company which will occupy the pier is installing motor-drivenchain conveyors to expedite the trucking at low stages of the tide.
