The green roof of the Wild Project theater in the East Village neighborhood of New York

The green roof of the Wild Project theater in the East Village neighborhood of New York is opened to the public on Sunday October 11, 2009 as part of the Open House New York activities. The environmentally friendly building, formerly a garage, was transformed into a theater by the Thread Collective architecture group. The green roof, constructed by Alive Structures, offers environmental benefits including insulation to reduce heating and cooling costs, reduction of storm water runoff and filtering the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen.
