Tarr Steps is a medieval clapper bridge on Exmoor in Somerset England. Is was partially swept away in late December 2012.

Tarr Steps was damaged in the floods of winter 2012, the River Barle swept away a section of the bridge. The stone slabs are not fixed to each other or the river bed, but rely upon their weight to hold them in place. Whilst this may seem to modern eyes to be strange, it does mean that in the case of a flood, the slabs are not damaged if they come adrift. The bridge and its adjacent ford are de3signated carriageways so it was the responsibility of Somerset Council to repair the bridge.
