Pvt. Shaw of the photographed Sergeant Major Rudolph Kolodzieu, a German bombing squadron observer. Kolodzieu, 25, had been flying since May 18, 1918. His plane was shot down near Verdun on October 14, 1918, and he was being held at Souilly Prison in Meuse, France. The photograph was passed by the censor, but the date is unknown.
