The Peacock hrake in its construction includes the perfection ofthe spindle brake and the addition of a power multiplying devicedesigned to place the vehicle at all times absolutely under controlof the operator. The brake is attached to the under surface of attached to the eccentrically-geared cam and the brake is ready tooperate. The C brake, or frame, lias come into favor for the reason that it ismore adaptable to heavy high speed suburban cars. The accom-panying illustration shows all its lines and angles. It is constructedon precisely the same lines as the other Peacock brakes, exceptthat it is larger and heavier, being ao/i in. long by 9% in. wideover all. and projecting 9 9-16 in. below the platform. The ratio ofbearing on the A and B styles is 14 to 34 while on the C it is 12 to48. The C drum is precisely the same as the A and B drum and theamount of chain taken up for one revolution of the gear will be thesame. Striking testimony of tlie merits of Peacock brakes is shown inrecent orders placed with the National Brake Co. by the ChicagoCity Railway Brooklyn Rapid Transit Co. and several other ofthe largest city in the country, there being over 150 roacLsnow having these brakes in service.
