Mediterranean House Gecko, Hemidactylus turcicus, from Malta, Mediterranean Sea.

The origin of the Mediterranean House Gecko is not clear. Today's distribution ranges from the tropical and warm-temperate regions of the Mediterranean countries throughout many parts of the world. The relatively small geckos shows dark brown to yellow colored tubercles all over his body and light stripes along its tail. It is generally considered to be nocturnal, hunting for smaller insects. The scientific name derives from the Latin words for half ("hemi") and fingers (or toes) ("daktylos").
