Jos. F. 1869 he was appointed to fill an un-expired term in the Salt Lake Citycouncil, after which he was elected amember of that body regularly in 1870,1872, 1880, 1882, 1884, 1886 and 1888. Hehas also served three terms as a mem-ber of the Utah legislature, namely in1884, 1886 and 1888. In 1897 he waselected mayor of Salt Lake City on the(.itizens ticket, which position he filledwith efficiency and dignity and gavesatisfaction to all concerned by thestraightforward manner in which he. conducted the affairs of the city. Heperformed the duties of clerk of theFifteeenth Ward for over twenty years,and for nearly fifteen years he actedis one of the presidents of the 10thquorum of Seventy. In May, 1887, hewas ordained to the office of a HighPriest and set apart to act as an al-ternate member of the High has also labored as a home mis-sionary in the Salt Lake Stake formany years. Elder Clark is widelyknown as a successful business man,having been in the mercantile businesssince 1852. For many years he wasassistant superintendent and treasurerof the Z. C. M. I., and is now the senior member and manager of the wholesalefirm of Clark, Eldredge & Co., which isdoing a very extensive businessthroughout this whole intermountaincountry.
