Halogenoalkane reactions. The halogenoalkanes chlorobutane, bromobutane and iodobutane have been reacted with ethanolic silver nitrate (AgNO3). In each case the halogen atom, chlorine (Cl, left), bromine (Br, centre) and iodine (I, right) has been substituted for a nitrate group, giving a precipitate of a silver halide.
