EPROM microchip. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of an EPROM (erasable programmable read only memory). This is a programmable microprocessor silicon chip that contains thousands of miniaturised transistors and other components. The programme can be erased by exposure to ultraviolet light (or electricity for EEPROMs), and the microchip reprogrammed.
