Cathkin Park, Glasgow. Former football ground of Third Lanark AC (1872 -1967)

A wide shot of the former home of Third Lanark Athletic Club. A professional football club from Glasgow which folded in 1967. What remains of the former Third Lanark Athletic Club football stadium in Glasgow. Situated in Cathkin Park. Showing the pitch, still used for local soccer by a reformed Third Lanark amateur team. Refurbished terraces and crowd anti crush barriers. Third Lanark started as the football team of the Third Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers, part of the Volunteer Force. Known as 3rd LRV. The team was formally founded on 12 December 1872 at a meeting of the Third Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers in the Regimental Orderly Room in Howard Street, Glasgow. The soldiers, inspired by the first ever international friendly which had taken place two weeks previously, decided to form their own team. Cathkin Park is a municipal park in Glasgow, Scotland. The park is maintained by the city's parks department, and it is a public place where football is still played.
