Originally a Benedictine monastery this magnificent Neo-Classical building became the seat of the portuguese Parliament after the dissolution of the religious orders in 1834. The building is kown as the Palacio das Cortes, and also as the Assembleia da Republica and the Palacio de Sao Bento.
