Colony encrusting oyster shell and coral, zooids very large. Orifice with lateral indentations and condyles and two (occasionally three) spines. One to three frontal foramina, frequently only one present, tripartite at first, often occluded early in ontogeny. Avicularia large, with asymmetrically curved, slightly spathulate or acute mandibles, orientated distally. Vicarious avicularia rare. Brood chambers not prominent. Measurements (in mm).
