Nanotube formation

Growing nanotubes to examine protected passages of retroviruses from infected cells to healthy cells. Sandia researchers generated nanotubes by an approach that involved the use of motor proteins to stretch naturally occurring membranes into tubes. The researchers found that interaction of the lipid membrane (POPC) with a high affinity protein called streptavidin alone was enough to form the nanotubes.
