The fruit (), which grows in clusters, isabout the size of the ripe it turns yellow, and itstaste is sweet and mealy, like therichest muskmelon. The Mangostan (Garcinia man-gostana) (fig. 72) is about the sizeand shape of the orange, and oneof the most delicious of fruits. Itsflavor mingles that of the pineapple andstrawberry. The tree is very beautiful,and indigenous in Sumatra, Java, andadjacent islands. § 3. Esculent Roots.
