Blue sky afternoon sunlight view Guardian Angel Cathedral, Cathedral Way, Las Vegas Strip, USA
In 1961 Mobster Moe Dalitz, one of the major figures helping to shape Las Vegas onward of the late 1940s, donated land for a new Strip Cathedral. Los Angeles based architect, Paul Revere Williams, was hired to build a church that would hold over 1000 visitors. A gigantic mosaic of the Guardian Angel on the front facade was designed by Edith Piczek. The church opened in 1963 and became the seat of the Bishop of the Diocese of Las Vegas in 1995.
