The shrine beside the main N entrance contains an altar (replica) to the goddess & two column bases perhaps used to support dedications & offerings from perfomers: the oval amphitheatre was used for entertainments, practising troop manoeuvres & weapon training. The largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain, used by the Twentieth Legion Valeria Victrix based at Deva legionary fortress from around AD87.
