The next night the boys mother came to church,,and has been attending quite regularly ever since. She had been to church afew times before, but I fully believe that God used this little incident to touchher heart, and make her more interested in Christianity. Since the lesson for August is in this mission, we give a brief sketch as a foundationfor study :— At the meeting of the American Board in Salem, in 1871, a memorial waspresented from the Provisional Committee of Foreign Evangelization, askingthat the Board should undertake the care of work in nominally Christianlands formerly under the care of the American and Foreign ChristianUnion. The matter was thoroughly discussed, and a resolution passedauthorizing the Board to enlarge its operations in this direction. Soon after-ward Messrs. Luther and William Gulick and their wives were sent to Spain,and work was subsequently opened in Austria, Italy, and Mexico.
